Ukrainian Marines use mobile APKWS missile launchers against invaders on the front lines.
The video of the military operations was released on social media.
The detachment of the 37th Marine Brigade uses APKWS 70mm precision rockets to engage targets in one of the front line areas.
On the video, the launcher on the chassis of the American HMMWV is firing a shot, after which the missile, adjusting the direction of flight, hits directly at the target located in the house.
The missile’s guidance accuracy is so precise that it makes it possible to get into a small observation station mounted on the pillar.
APKWS (Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System) is a BAE Systems project. The missile’s integrated semi-active laser guidance system turned the Hydra’s 70mm unguided rockets into a cheap but powerful precision missile weapon.
Based on this rocket, the VAMPIRE (Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Isolated ISR Rocket Equipment) missile system has been created, its integrator is L3Harris Technologies. VAMPIRE can be hosted on a variety of transport platforms. In particular, on SUVs.
The 2.75-inch (70 millimeter) missile fills a niche between unguided missiles and anti-tank ammunition, ensuring accuracy in neutralizing small targets on the battlefield.
APKWS can hit aerial targets, which turns it into a short-range SAM when used in the VAMPIRE complex.
Western partners of Ukraine mentioned VAMPIRE deliveries in relation to the struggle of Ukrainian air defense against Iranian kamikaze drones.
The Pentagon announced the provision of such missile systems to Ukraine in a package of military assistance on August 24.
Also in January 2023, Germany handed over 20 units of APKWS mobile rocket launchers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Rocket launchers were installed on pickup trucks.
