The Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the first Russian MT-LB with the Soviet А-22 Ogon’ naval multiple rocket launchers.
The photos of the equipment were released on social media.
It is reported that the combat vehicle was destroyed near the village of Kozachi Laheri, Kherson region.
Given the settlement’s proximity to the positions of the Ukrainian military, the used munition could have been an FPV drone or a drone with the possibility of dropping ammunition.
This can be confirmed by the burnt hull of the combat vehicle and the visual lack of fragmentation damage.
Militarnyi previously reported on the deployment of such MRLs in June 2023.
А-22 Ogon is a naval multiple rocket launcher of 140mm caliber designed to arm landing craft on hovercraft.
The launcher, indexed MS-227, is operated with OF-45, ZZH-45, or OFD-45 unguided rockets.
The OF-45 main ammunition is designed to defeat lightly armored equipment and infantry, and its OFD-45 version has a more powerful warhead and an increased range of fire.
The OF-45 rocket firing range reaches 4500 meters, and for OFD-45, it reaches up to 9500 meters. The weight of the warhead in the first case is 5.56 kilograms, and in the second it is 6 kilograms.
There are also ZZh-45 incendiary rockets close to OF-45 in their characteristics.
In addition, the launcher itself has two versions, the first being the MS-227, placed in a special niche in the traveling position, and the second being the MS-227P permanently located on the deck. The MS-227P is most likely used on Russian MT-LB.
The MRL contains 22 rockets. Ammunition on ships is stored in special niches, and in the case of MT-LB, it is most likely to be charged manually.
The lack of ship fire control systems forced the Russians to integrate optical guidance into this system.
Militarnyi previously reported on the Russians installing the RBU-6000 Smerch-2 anti-submarine MRL on MT-LB.
