Ukrainian crews operating the MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system are now intercepting ballistic missiles with a single interceptor.
A unit commander whose formation operates these systems stated this in a report by the Ukrainian Air Force’s Air Command “West.”
Previously, to ensure a high probability of kill against such targets, crews typically launched two to four interceptors at once.
“We try to use as few missiles as possible. Even when the firing doctrine calls for using 2–4 missiles against certain complex targets, we destroy them with a single one,” the commander said.
The footage also shows a Patriot system launcher loaded with two PAC-2 missiles and four PAC-3 missiles, the latter adapted for intercepting ballistic and aeroballistic targets.
Russia has managed to increase production of Iskander ballistic missiles with the help of intermediaries who procure the necessary equipment abroad.
A key role in this process was played by the import of critical components from China.
