Ukraine’s air defense destroyed 21 missiles during a massive Russian attack on the morning of January 23, 2024.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported on this.

During the combined missile strike on Ukraine, the enemy used cruise, ballistic, air, and anti-aircraft guided missiles.

A total of 41 enemy missiles of various types were recorded during the night and morning. Most of the missiles attacked along the ballistic trajectory:

  • 4 S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft missiles from Belgorod region – in the direction of Kharkiv region;
  • 15 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles from six Tu-95MS strategic bombers (launch area – Engels, Russia);
  • 8 Kh-22 missiles from Tu-22M3 bombers from Bryansk and Orel regions – in the direction of Kharkiv and Sumy regions;
  • 12 Iskander-M ballistic missiles (launch area – Belgorod and Voronezh regions);
  • 2 Kh-59 guided missiles from two Su-34 aircraft (launch area – Belgorod region).

As a result of combat operations, the Ukrainian Air Force, in cooperation with the air defense forces of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, the following missiles were destroyed:

  • 15 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles;
  • 5 Iskander-M ballistic missiles;
  • Kh-59 guided missile.

The Ukrainian Air Force Command emphasized that not all Russian missiles that “attacked along the ballistic trajectory reached their targets.”

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that as of 08:45 a.m., five people were killed and at least 40 injured as a result of a massive Russian strike on Ukrainian territory.

Several fires broke out in Kyiv as a result of a missile strike in the capital – in the Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi and Pecherskyi districts. “One person was killed, several civilians injured. Two high-rise buildings, a detached house, and cars were damaged,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said in a statement.

In the Kyiv region, rescuers are working in Bucha district. Two multi-storey buildings, a detached house, outbuildings, and cars are damaged here. Three people were injured.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, an attack on Pavlohrad killed one person and injured another.

In Kharkiv, the Russian invaders hit two multi-storey buildings. According to preliminary reports, three people were killed and about 42 others were injured. As reported, at least eight explosions were heard in the city around 7:15 a.m. The entrance of a residential building was completely destroyed. Rescuers are inspecting the damaged buildings and dismantling the rubble.

Russian invasion forces also fired missiles at Shostka, Sumy region. The city’s critical infrastructure came under enemy fire.
