The Ukrainian Air Force shared the details of a Russian nighttime missile attack on Ukraine.
An air alert was declared throughout Ukraine due to the shelling.
In many regions, air defense systems were in place to destroy Russian cruise missiles.
At about 4:00 a.m. on August 15, 2023, the Russian invaders attacked Ukraine with air- and sea-launched missiles. In total, the Ukrainian Air Force recorded the launch of at least 28 Russian cruise missiles of various types.
In particular, four Kh-22 cruise missiles were fired from Tu-22M3 supersonic bombers (Soltsy and Shaykovka air bases). The Russians also launched 20 Kh-101/Kh-555 air-launched cruise missiles from 11 strategic aviation planes (Engels and Olenegorsk air bases).
In addition, a Russian frigate launched four Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea from the Yalta area of the temporarily occupied Crimea. Eight launches of anti-aircraft guided missiles from S-300/S-400 air defense systems were recorded in the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Anti-aircraft missile units, mobile firing groups, fighter aircraft, and air support units were deployed to shoot down the Russian missiles. As a result, the Air Force, in cooperation with units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, managed to destroy 16 Kh-101/Kh-555 and Kalibr cruise missiles.
According to Serhiy Lysak, Head of the Dnipro Regional Military Administration, at about 4:20 a.m., a shell hit an industrial enterprise in Dnipro. A fire broke out there and has been extinguished. An important sports facility in the city was also damaged. Two people were injured in the attack.
Also, during a nighttime air attack, wreckage of downed missiles fell on apartment buildings in Lviv, and casualties were reported. There was a fire and destruction. In addition, damaged houses were recorded in villages in the Lviv region, as reported by Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
In Lutsk, three people were killed in a missile attack, and an industrial enterprise was hit. Yuriy Pohulyayko, Head of the Volyn Regional Administration, stated that there were casualties.
The wreckage of a downed Russian missile fell on a house in the Kolomyia district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, damaging two nearby outbuildings, as reported by Svitlana Onyshchuk, Head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration.
In the town of Smila, Cherkasy region, Russian missiles hit a private enterprise and a medical facility. Part of the city is currently without water, said Ihor Taburets, Head of the Regional Military Administration.
