On July 19, a Russian fighter jet was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile force unit of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of Nova Kakhovka.
The Air Force reported that the taken down jet was likely a Russian Su-35 fighter.
The fighter tried to strike the attack aircraft of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“We have a visual confirmation of the aircraft going down and the pilot ejecting,” the Ukrainian military announced in a statement.
A video of an unidentified aircraft falling down was shared on social media.
The video caption says the incident took place in Liubymivka area of the Kakhovka district in the Kherson Region, which is near Nova Kakhovka.
Over the same day, Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile forces shot down 5 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Su-35 combat aircraft is one of the main fighters of the Russian Air Force.
Sukhoi Bureau engineers used the series primary Su-27 jet as a basis while sketching Su-35 main airframe parts.
The assembly of the first Su-35 prototype was completed at KnAAPO in 2007. Later, the Russian fighter was presented to the public during the 2007 MAKS Air Show.
In May 2022, a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter shot down another Russian Su-35.
Also in April 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine found the wreckage of a downed Russian fighter in the Kharkiv Region.
