Air defense shot down 29 Russian cruise missiles used by the invaders to attack Ukraine.

The Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on the results of the air defense operation.

Between 9 pm on May 17 to 05.30 am on May 18, 2023, the Russian invaders launched several waves of missile attacks from different directions.

In total, the enemy launched 30 sea, air, and ground-launched cruise missiles.

22 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles were fired at Ukraine from strategic aviation planes – two Tu-160s and eight Tu-95s.

Six Kalibr cruise missiles were fired from the Russian warships in the Black Sea.

The invaders also used two Iskander-K cruise missiles from land-based operational-tactical missile systems.

The Ukrainian Air Force states that in cooperation with the Defense Forces of Ukraine, air defense forces destroyed 29 Russian cruise missiles.

Two Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones and two reconnaissance drones were also shot down.

According to Operational Command South, late on Wednesday evening, the Russians launched a missile attack on Odesa. The attack was carried out from missile carriers in the Black Sea and from land-based operational and tactical missile systems from the temporarily occupied territory.

6 Kalibr and 2 Iskander-K missiles are reported destroyed by the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces. Most of the enemy missiles were shot down over the sea, but two missiles were shot down by air defenses over the industrial area of the city.

The downed missiles fell on the buildings of industrial enterprises, which were damaged. As a result of the destruction, 1 civilian died, and two more were injured.
