The 2S6 Tunguska self-propelled medium-range surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery systems of Ukraine managed to shoot down a cruise missile.
OSINTtechnical analyst released a photo of the Ukrainian air defense system that shot down the missile.
There are two victory marks with downed targets on the Ukrainian 2S6 Tunguska. They include a cruise missile and an Iranian Shahed loitering munition.
The SPAD also has the insignia of the 24th Mechanized Brigade.
Back in October, it was reported that the 2S6 Tunguska systems protect mechanized troops from air threats in the Donetsk region.
The task of these systems is to primarily destroy a variety of drones, another type of aviation rarely flies within their fire range.
Besides, the equipment is Soviet and outdated, so it is difficult for crews to hunt for targets that did not exist during its production.
Nevertheless, the Ukrainian military managed to hit a cruise missile with its help.
The short-range anti-aircraft system ensures the defeat of low-flying air targets, including helicopters.
The 2S6 is armed with eight 9М311 anti-aircraft missiles with a range of up to 8 km. These missiles have a maximum speed of 900 m/s and about 4.62 kg of explosives in TNT equivalent.
Tunguska, despite the fact that it is primarily a means of air defense, can quite confidently fight enemy armored vehicles due to 2А38 30mm guns.
Therefore, it is quite a universal tool on the battlefield, but the Ukrainian military does not risk bringing it into the field of view of enemy infantry and armored vehicles.
