The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine plans to engage foreign partners to develop and modernize equipment for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
This was reported by the official website of the Ministry of Defence.
The relevant document was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the initiative of the Ministry of Defence. It amends the Procedure for the development, mastering and production of new types of defense products.
In addition, the document regulates the termination of production of existing types of such products for Ukraine.
Thanks to the relevant amendments, the new mechanism applies to foreign defense procurement contracts and establishes clear conditions for cooperation with foreign partners.
“Foreign companies will be able to participate in the development and modernization of weapons subject to special permits for the transfer of military technology and export of relevant goods and services. Particular attention is paid to the modernization of state aviation aircraft, their components and equipment, as well as ships,” said Brigadier General Anatolii Klochko, Deputy Minister of Defense.
The adopted resolution describes in detail the mechanisms for transferring equipment for modernization, requirements for maintaining its serviceability, personnel training and quality control.
The idea is to involve Western companies that can maintain Soviet-era equipment. Most of this equipment has not been modernized for a long time, and some of it needs major repairs.
The resolution also regulates the distribution of intellectual property rights and the procedure for transferring created scientific and technical products.
“The innovations will allow us to meet the needs for the development of new models and modernization of existing weapons, military and special equipment. This will contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the context of countering Russian aggression,” said Colonel Vladyslav Shostak, head of the State Research Institute of Aviation.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that the military equipment that Sweden was providing to Ukraine as part of defense assistance would be serviced in service centers abroad.
Swedish experts will also train Ukrainians in the maintenance of this equipment.
In total, about 60 Swedish military personnel may be involved in the creation of logistics and maintenance centers for military equipment near Ukraine. This decision was made by the Swedish government.
