Operators of Ukrainian drone interceptors have begun engaging enemy targets remotely using new control technologies.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, former Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, announced this.
On his X page, he published a video showing a Litavr interceptor drone being controlled from a remote command post. The drone successfully destroyed a Russian Shahed (Geran-2) drone during a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine on March 23-24.
On the same day, the Wild Hornets company, known for its Sting interceptor drones, also announced the combat use of similar technology. The system, called HORNET VISION Ctrl, is part of the broader HORNET VISION drone control ecosystem.
The concept allows an operator to control an interceptor drone from hundreds of kilometers away from the launch point. Footage released by the company shows an operator controlling a Sting drone while staying in a hotel far from the launch site.
According to Wild Hornets, this could allow effective crews to cover much larger areas of the front line, expanding operational range from about 20 km to up to 100 km.
Overall, the technology is expected to significantly improve crew safety by enabling operators to work from protected locations, such as hardened facilities or underground command posts.
At the same time, drones still require technical crews for assembly, deployment at launch sites, and pre-launch preparation.
Ukraine’s defense industry is also developing solutions to further automate this process.
On March 7, it was reported that Ukrainian Magura naval drones had been equipped with launchers for interceptor drones.
This approach enables the pre-positioning of autonomous launch containers along the flight paths of Russian drones or on vehicle platforms, with remote activation.
Separately, it was recently reported that Ukrainian air defenses shot down more than 900 Russian drones of various types in a single day.
