Sweden and Denmark will deliver the Tridon Mk2 air defense systems ordered for Ukraine within one year.
Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson announced this.
Jonson shared that the systems will include detection and command-and-control components, spare parts, and ammunition.
Within the 18th, 19th, and 20th support packages for Ukraine, Sweden has financed the acquisition of Tridon Mk2 systems totaling 2.1 billion Swedish kronor (about $190 million).
Denmark has decided to expand its procurement by purchasing additional TRIDON guns and modernization equipment valued at 480 million Swedish kronor (about $43 million). This amount corresponds to the cost of armament for one air defense battalion.
The governments of both countries announced the delivery of the systems on February 3.
The Tridon Mk2 systems are already in production, and their design has been adapted to Ukrainian requirements. The first units are expected to arrive in Ukraine within a few months after the formal order is placed.
The air defense system developed by BAE Systems is equipped with a 40mm Bofors 40 Mk4 gun with an ammunition feed for 100 rounds.
The system is mounted on a Scania civilian truck with a 6×6 wheel configuration, providing high mobility and enabling rapid deployment on public roads.
The TRIDON Mk2 40mm air defense gun system can engage aerial targets at ranges up to 13 kilometers.
The use of programmable Bofors 3P ammunition allows for effective engagement of drones, cruise missiles, and helicopters, creating a fragmentation cloud in front of the target.
About a year ago, Sweden announced the transfer of RBS 70 air defense systems and Tridon systems to Ukraine with a total value of approximately €106.6 million.
