Ukraine will receive GLSDB long-range precision bombs designed for HIMARS rocket systems.

It is reported that the Pentagon has successfully tested a new long-range precision bomb.

“The GLSDB is expected to arrive on the battlefield as early as Wednesday (January 31 – ed.),” the statement said.

Ukraine is to receive the first batch of such bombs, which can travel about 150 km.

According to the U.S. official, it gives the Ukrainian military “a deeper strike capability they haven’t had, it complements their long-range fire arsenal.”

Boeing first approached the United States with a request to purchase and ship such ammunition to Ukraine last fall.

At various times, the press has voiced different deadlines for when the GLSDВ might be handed over to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

GLSDВ uses two combat-proven systems that allow users to quickly engage a variety of targets, from any angle at a considerable distance.

The history of the GLSDB begins with Boeing’s GBU-39 precision-guided glide bomb, the first in the Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) family.

The bomb has wings that fold in flight, which significantly increases the strike range.

For the bomb, the engine was selected from the М26 rocket, which is used to launch from the М142 HIMARS and М270.

The maximum firing distance of GLSDB can reach 150 kilometers in the direction of launch. Thus, the GLSDB is a glide bomb crossed with a solid rocket motor.
