Ukraine to Obtain SkyShark Attack Drones Based on Formula 1 Tech

British MGI Engineering has announced plans to deliver SkyShark strike drones to Ukraine.

The developer says the systems combine high technical performance with a relatively low price, offering an alternative to costly missile systems, United24 Media reported.

MGI Engineering was founded by former Formula 1 engineer Mike Gascoyne, who worked at McLaren and Lotus Racing. The company is adapting motorsport know‑how to build long‑range kamikaze drones for precision strikes.

The first product, the SkyShark, is expected in Ukraine within six weeks, the company said.

The platform can carry a warhead of 10–20 kg, reach speeds up to 450 km/h and operate at ranges up to 250 km. Navigation uses a homing system.

“We are in a battle. It’s like a race to be the fastest and the best,” Gascoyne told BFBS/Forces News, describing how Formula 1 principles have informed rapid, cost‑effective weapon development.

MGI’s engineers say they are applying aerodynamics, lightweight composites and high‑performance design to create drones that can function in contested electronic environments, including GNSS jamming.

MGI said Ukrainian partners are already involved in production planning. The SkyShark is expected to cost about $67,000, significantly less than many missile systems for comparable missions.

MGI is also developing a heavier TigerShark strike platform with greater range and payload for more complex missions, including attacks on fortified positions and logistics hubs.

TigerShark is designed to carry a modular payload of up to 300 kg over about 750 km at speeds up to 750 km/h.

The drone uses the Auterion autonomy stack, enabling operation with degraded GPS and communications through inertial navigation and terrain‑mapping supported by onboard processing.

TigerShark can be launched from the ground using a rocket booster or from transport platforms; its design allows multiple simultaneous launches to complicate enemy air‑defence responses.
