For the first time in Ukraine, critical infrastructure enterprises will be able to join the national air defense system.

The decision was made on the instructions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal stated.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved an experimental procedure allowing enterprises to participate in forming air defense groups under military command.

Operators of critical infrastructure, including energy, transport, and telecommunications companies, water utilities, and other strategically important facilities, are the primary participants invited to join.

Other organizations with suitable resources that meet security requirements may also participate.

Air defense groups created on the basis of such enterprises will operate strictly under military command within the Air Force’s unified control system.

Enterprises will be able to purchase or receive air defense equipment in coordination with the military command or through procedures approved by the Ministry of Defense.

The groups will consist of vetted employees who have passed the required screening, including by the Security Service of Ukraine.
