President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre signed a bilateral agreement on security cooperation and long-term support.

The ceremony took place on May 31 in Stockholm, Militarnyi reports.

The text of the agreement was published on the website of the Ukrainian President.

The document stipulates that in 2024 Norway will provide Ukraine with about €1.2 billion in military assistance. In total, Norway has allocated almost €6.4 billion for 2023-2027 in the long-term Nansen Program to support Ukraine.

It is noted that Norwegian support for Ukraine would continue for the duration of the agreement.

In close cooperation with allies, Norway will aid Ukraine in developing modern combat aircraft capability. Also, Norway will donate F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

In addition, Norway will make a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian maritime capabilities in the Black and Azov Seas. It will continue to provide NASAMS air defense systems, as well as equipment and training.

Ukraine and Norway will also work to deepen defense and industrial cooperation. Norway will also work on Ukraine’s future membership in NATO.

The non-military blocks of the bilateral agreement relate to support for the Ukrainian “peace formula,” sanctions, compensation for damages, and bringing the aggressor to justice. It also includes assistance in economic recovery, humanitarian demining, protection of critical infrastructure, and countering Russian propaganda. Norwegian hospitals will continue to provide assistance to Ukrainians.

Norway became the 15th country, with which Ukraine signed a bilateral security agreement to implement the provisions of the G7 Vilnius Declaration.

The day before, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said that Ukraine should’ve not faced any restrictions on the use of weapons donated by Western countries.

In April, Norway decided to allocate an additional $600 million to support Ukraine in 2024.
