As part of the Czech Initiative, Ukraine is set to receive 1.8 million artillery shells this year.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during a joint press conference with Czech President Petr Pavel in Prague, as reported by European Pravda.

The Ukrainian president highlighted that the previous year, the Czech Republic had made a significant contribution to Ukraine’s artillery supply. He expressed hope for continued strong and effective cooperation throughout 2025.

Zelenskyy also announced an upcoming meeting with the representatives of Czech defense companies. Meanwhile, he emphasized that Ukraine was counting not only on supplies within the framework of the Czech Initiative.

According to Zelenskyi, this year Ukraine expects to receive three million artillery shells.

As of the end of April 2025, it is known that the Czech Republic had provided Ukraine with 400,000 large-caliber shells as part of a new round of its initiative.

The initiative fund is continuously replenished. In early April, it was reported that Norway would allocate NOK 4 billion ($376 million) for the purchase of ammunition.

Czech Initiative

Throughout 2024, with the support of international partners, the Czech Republic supplied Ukraine with approximately 1.5 million artillery shells under the Czech-led ammunition initiative.

It is noted that the program included not only standard 155 mm and 152 mm shells but also other ammunition with calibers over 100 mm. Specifically, deliveries of 155 mm and 152 mm shells amounted to about 500,000 units.

At the end of March, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala stated that in 2025, Ukraine could’ve received at least as many ammunition supplies under the initiative as had been delivered that year.

Back in February 2024, Czech President Petr Pavel announced the possibility of purchasing around 800,000 artillery shells for Ukraine on the global market.

This included, in particular, 500,000 155 mm shells and 300,000 122 mm shells. Later, the Czech Republic was able to identify additional shell quantities, although no further details on this were disclosed.
