The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) exposed an agent of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation.

The agent conducted reconnaissance for a series of rocket and artillery strikes on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Donetsk region, according to the SSU report on the service’s website.

Information about the headquarters and key strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Avdiivka were the enemy’s priority targets.

The aggressor was also interested in the routes along which the heavy equipment of Ukrainian defenders should move to the front line.

The Russian agent was particularly interested in HIMARS rocket systems, Leopard 2 main battle tanks, and M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.

To carry out the strikes, the Russian agent conducted reconnaissance activities near the frontline. He was supposed to transmit the discovered positions to the FSB with geo-referencing.

Due to the prompt actions of the SSU officers, they managed to detain the detainee in his own home in a timely manner. The SSU seized his cell phone, which he used to take photos of the Defense Forces and communicate with the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, the detainee was a resident of Myrnohrad, Donetsk region. He was recruited by the Russian special services in December 2023. He came to the attention of Russian special services because of the dissemination of information about the movement of the Armed Forces units.

The transfer of intelligence information took place using a messenger, through which he sent photos and made appropriate marks on an electronic map.

The detainee is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment.

As Militarnyi previously reported, the SSU detained an agent of the Russian special services who was gathering intelligence on Ukrainian Defense Forces in Mykolaiv.

Russians were interested in locations of military hospitals and other medical facilities where Ukrainian defenders were treated and rehabilitated.
