The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine demonstrated ambulance carriages.
This is stated on the Defense Ministry’s website.
“Coordination and logistics played a key role in military medicine during the war. After all, time is extremely important at any stage of medical care for a wounded or injured fighter and plays a key role in further treatment. That is why evacuation medical and resuscitation cars have become an extremely important element for providing quality and timely assistance,” stated Deputy Minister of Defense Nataliia Kalmykova.
Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, noted that the first ambulance carriage, which has no analogues in the world, was created in early March 2022.
“Then there were no drawings and technical documentation, but there was a great need for such cars. Railway workers and doctors converted the first such car in four days. Today, the total number of cars involved in medical evacuation in Ukraine is 62 units. Thank you to all the partners with whom we are implementing this extremely important project. The unique experience of railway workers, medics, and the military makes it possible to save lives – and this is what Ukrzaliznytsia has been doing and doing since the beginning of a full-scale invasion,” he stressed.
In ambulance carriages, the medical provisions are the same as in ordinary hospitals, enabling the provision of medical care even during transportation. This is particularly crucial for the transport of seriously wounded soldiers who cannot be transported by other means.
Anesthesiologists, nurses, paramedics, orderlies, and railway evacuation crews work in these wagons. Medical equipment on board makes it possible to perform operative interventions in critical situations during the movement of the train.
Oleksandr Kubrakov, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, stressed that there are prospects for running medical cars not only from the front to rear hospitals.
“We are technically ready to launch wagons to and across the border for the treatment and rehabilitation of our soldiers. We are working with partners on implementation,” he commented.
Recall that on February 18, 2024, it was reported that four sanitary cars were put on the tracks.
Ukrzaliznytsia has converted cars from passenger to ambulance in-house. They have everything necessary to provide medical care to the wounded during the evacuation.
Since March 2022, Ukrainian railway workers have commissioned 62 medical cars, and by the end of 2024, they plan to convert eight more.
