Air defense hit a classified Russian unmanned aerial vehicle with a missile.
Ukraine’s Air Command Center reported that on July 31, soldiers of the anti-aircraft missile unit “grounded” a Russian drone.
This unmanned aerial vehicle was supposed to carry out preliminary reconnaissance to correct the Russian troops’ fire.
The drone was shot down with the 9K37M1 Buk anti-aircraft missile system of the Ukrainian servicemen.
The Ukrainian servicemen also showed photos of the downed drone.
The Russian drone shot down by the Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile unit is considered classified and has no known official name.
This unique drone is often confused with another Russian drone, Orlan-10. The UAV visually resembles the aircraft of the Orlan family, but there are some differences.
The drone is equipped with a camera with 12 lenses for panoramic aerial photos and video shooting with the possibility of transmitting the collected information to the control point in real-time.
Individual components of the UAV, in particular the optical-electronic system, were produced by a Russian company that is under US sanctions and works together with the Orlan UAV manufacturing plant.
The drone model is used not by the Ministry of Defense of Russia, but rather by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
The first case of the use and destruction of a Russian drone of this model was recorded in 2014.
A drone of this type was also shot down in June 2022.
