The Armed Forces of Ukraine plan to form specialized units tasked with detecting and destroying enemy drone operators.

Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, announced this plan.

In addition to directly targeting enemy drone crews, the new units will also search for and destroy unmanned systems control points.

“Whoever has the advantage in the quantity and quality of UAVs preserves more of their soldiers and destroys the enemy more effectively. We continue to maintain an advantage in the number of FPV drone sorties,” the commander-in-chief said.

It remains unclear whether these units will be created exclusively within the Unmanned Systems Forces or formed across all branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the same time, according to the UFS online dashboard, from June 1, 2025, to January 6, 2026, Ukrainian drone crews struck 4,147 enemy drone launch sites, 198 of which were completely destroyed.

In December 2025, drone units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces also set a new record, striking 33,000 Russian servicemen.

Losses inflicted by drones alone were comparable to Russia’s monthly mobilization intake.

Of the total losses, about 12,000 were attributed directly to units of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
