The new 147th Separate Artillery Brigade of the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces will receive Ukrainian towed howitzers designated Bohdana-BG.
Brigade Commander Colonel Viktor Dovhal stated this in an interview with Armiia TV.
The establishment of the 147th Separate Artillery Brigade to strengthen the 7th Corps was announced at the end of August 2025. As of September 2025, the 7th Corps of the Land Forces is responsible for the defence of Pokrovsk.
The brigade has already received French CAESAR self-propelled howitzers.
According to the commander, each gun type has its strengths and weaknesses: towed artillery is more suitable for defensive operations, while self-propelled artillery is more suitable for offensive ones.
“But this is very general. Take the Bohdana or the M777 — in defensive fighting, their rate of fire and maneuverability are high. In offensive operations, self-propelled artillery is preferable because it can change firing positions faster and carries its combat equipment onboard. With a towed gun, movement, emplacement, and orientation are more difficult,” he said.
The brigade will also include unmanned systems, electronic warfare units, and other combat elements to protect personnel and equipment from enemy drones and to adjust artillery fire accordingly.
