An unique modernization of Т-64 tank was made in Ukraine: local experts converted it into an armoured recovery vehicle.
Such armored vehicles are already used in the Bakhmut area. A video using a similar machine was shown on TikTok.
The author of the video said that the vehicle was used in a traffic accident.
The armoured recovery vehicle came to help the MT-LB armored personnel carrier, which was stuck near the road.
During the modification, the tank Т-64 ‘lost’ its turret, but received a raise, which was protected with Kontakt-1 ERA.
A module with a heavy machine gun, and smoke grenade launchers were also installed for protection.
Presumably, a traction winch is installed in the rear, which is protected by armored sides.
It is unlikely that the vehicle is used for landing operations, so troops should be located in the area of the engine compartment of the armored vehicle.
This modification on the basis of the Т-64 tank resembles the BREM-64 armored recovery vehicle, which was also made on the basis of the Т-64.
However, in the USSR BREM-64 did not go into the series. According to available information, the sample was subsequently converted into an MTU-64 bridge-laying tank.
Recall that in Ukraine, volunteers are processing captured Russian tanks Т-62 for armored recovery vehicles.
The newly converted tank under the BREM was transferred to the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade, which captured the Т-62 in the Kherson region. The obsolete Soviet tank sawed off the gun and installed special equipment.
