Latvia handed over to the Ukrainian Air Force two Mi-17 and two more Mi-2 helicopters.
The Ministry of Defense of Latvia stated that the support of Ukraine by Western countries should not stop.
“The Ukrainian Air Force has just received four helicopters donated by Latvia, which will soon join the aviation fleet of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” reads the statement of the Ministry.
Two Mi-17 and two Mi-2 helicopters were delivered to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a partially disassembled form.
Before delivery, the aircraft were painted, and one of the Mi-17s was overhauled.
“The Stinger MANPADS handed over by Latvia six months ago helped the Ukrainian army to deter the Russian invasion. Now, when Ukrainian soldiers are counterattacking in many places, our donated helicopters will help conduct military operations and save lives,” the Ministry of Defense added.
Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks also released a photo featuring two Mi-2MSB.
Mi-2MSB is a Ukrainian version of the upgraded Soviet Mi-2 multi-role helicopter, developed by the Motor Sich company.
As previously reported, Latvia is one of the countries that provided the most significant assistance to Ukraine if comparing the aid volume with the country’s GDP.
Latvia provided weapons and individual equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, dry rations, ammunition, anti-tank weapons, and man-portable air-defense systems worth more than €200 million.
Latvia is also one of the members of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which is designed to help Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.
The previous meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group was held on August 11 in Copenhagen, and was attended by defense ministers of many countries, including Artis Pabriks.
