The USA delivered M58 Mine Clearing Line Charge (MICLIC) systems to Ukraine.
The military showcased a photo featuring this system in the “OperativnoZSU” group.
On September 15, 2022, the U.S. Department of Defense announced new $600 million military aid to Ukraine.
A mine clearing equipment was mentioned on the list of military equipment that had to be transferred to Ukraine without any details on the type of this equipment.
The released photo shows a US-made M113A3 tracked armored personnel carrier towing an M58 Mine Clearing Line Charge.
The M58 Mine Clearing Line Charge entered service with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps in 1988.
The system consists of an M353 or M200A1 utility chassis trailer, a launcher, an M147 firing kit, an M58A3 line charge, and a 127 mm MK22 Mod 4 rocket.
The system’s action principle is very similar to the Soviet-era UR-83P mine clearing system.
The M58 MICLIC system is used to create a safe corridor in a minefield.
The charge is launched by a Mk22 rocket motor and explodes on the minefield, clearing a strip 100 meters long and eight meters wide.
The M58 MICLIC can be deployed in a variety of climates and weather conditions.
The launcher is reusable and can be recharged with a new charge in 30 minutes.
