Ukrainian gunners were provided with the 105mm M927 high-explosive rocket-assisted (HERA) shells for M119 howitzers.
Ukraine Weapons Tracker analysts published photos capturing the shells in Ukraine.
M927 provides a range increase of over 40% and a significant increase in lethality compared to the standard M1 projectile.
These more advanced American 105mm HERA have a range of up to 17 kilometers, unlike early М1 shells with a range of only 11.5 km.
An important feature is that the projectile provides an increase in striking action without needing to modify the gun.
M927 is the next generation of the 105mm M913 projectile of the United States Army.
M913 is designed exclusively to be used in the modified M119 howitzers and has a range of 20 km.
The increased projectile range is achieved by using Talley’s modern, composite HTPB propellant rocket motor.
This propellant is designed to work in conditions of high overloads and high speed of rotation.
The missile engine is triggered approximately 15.25 seconds after leaving the gun barrel.
The warhead contains 2.63 kg of explosive material. M927 provides an increase in the lethality of up to 80% compared to the standard M1 projectile.
Overall, the United States military assistance for Ukraine includes tens of thousands of rounds for M119 howitzers.ml
