Ukraine has begun using modified HMMWVs that are capable of creating minefields from PTM-3 mines.

According to Army TV, the HMMWV received two launchers.

Each unit has 30 charges, each of which places an anti-tank mine inside a tube.

The launcher is capable of firing a mine at a distance of 60 to 100 meters.

The tubes contain PTM-3 anti-tank mines of magnetic effect.

The mine is designed to disable enemy wheeled and tracked vehicles by destroying their undercarriage or hitting the bottom with a shaped charge.

This happens when the vehicle drives over the mine, or is positioned directly above it.

When a car hits a mine or drives over it, the mine is triggered by magnetic field fluctuations.

The cumulative charges created by the explosion penetrate the tank, killing the crew inside or damaging the tank’s systems.

If someone tries to move the mine when it is in the firing position, it explodes due to the influence of the Earth’s magnetic field. If the target is not detected, the mine self-destructs after the self-destruction period.

Thus, Ukrainian-modified HMMWVs are able to quickly create dangerous anti-tank minefields.

In 2023, volunteers even installed a multiple rocket launcher on an American HMMWV.
