The Ukrainian defense industry, in cooperation with European partners, has mastered the repair of Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
This was announced by Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The statement was made during a meeting with a delegation from KNDS Deutschland headed by CEO Ralf Koetzel.
KNDS is a leading arms manufacturer whose products have already proven effective on the battlefield. The delegations focused on strengthening industrial cooperation.
Ukraine’s defense ministry is working to launch repair and service hubs for the rapid restoration and maintenance of weapons. The company plans to develop a network of centers for the repair of heavy equipment in Ukraine.
As part of this cooperation, the first three Gepards have already been repaired.
Today, Gepard is one of the key anti-aircraft gun systems in Ukraine’s air defense.
These self-propelled systems play a crucial role in protecting cities and strategic facilities from attacks by Russian Shahed kamikaze drones and cruise missiles launched from Russia and the occupied regions.
The high rate of fire of two 35 mm cannons and the availability of its own radars make Gepard particularly effective in the fight against small targets at low altitudes.
Gepard plays an equally important role on the front line. Due to their mobility and autonomy, they are able to accompany Ukrainian Armed Forces units, providing them with cover from Russian tactical aircraft, attack helicopters and reconnaissance drones.
KNDS Deutschland expressed interest in the experience of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the use of their weapons.
During the meeting, the representatives of KNDS and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine agreed to establish such communication that will ensure the improvement of the company’s products based on the experience of modern warfare.
