European partners should intensify their support for Ukraine with weapons, in particular with regard to equipment and heavy weapons.
Militarnyi informs about this.
This was stated by Annalena Baerbok, German Foreign Minister, before a meeting of the Council of the European Union today, Ukrinform reports.
According to the Minister, it is more than clear that amid the horrible photos coming from Ukraine every day, Kyiv needs more military support in order to be able to defend itself.
Germany is working on this together with the international and European partners by sending millions of Euros under the European Peace Facility.
“Yet it is clear that Ukraine still needs military assistance, including heavy weapons. And now is not the time for excuses, now is the time for creativity and pragmatism, and it is a question of how to provide those materials and prepare the military as soon as possible,” Baerbock said.
She also stressed the need to preserve evidence of Russian war crimes in Ukrainian cities and towns.
“Every day of this terrible war brings more news of atrocities. Once peaceful cities, such as Mariupol, Bucha, and many others, are becoming places of horror,” said the diplomat.
The German Foreign Minister deemed important the discussions with the International Criminal Court “on needing to preserve the evidence and reports of war crimes, crimes against humanity, inhumanity, and then punish the perpetrators”. She noted that this work would need international support.
Germany has already allocated an additional €1 million to enable the on-site investigations and collection of evidence.
Previously, Rheinmetall, a German manufacturer of military equipment, offered Ukraine to purchase Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
Another German arms manufacturer, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, is offering Ukraine an agreement to supply 100 self-propelled 155-mm PzH 2000 ACS.
