Ukraine has invited UN experts to verify the origin of the kamikaze drones that Russia uses to attack Ukrainian infrastructure.

This is stated in the letter of Serhiy Kyslytsya, Ambassador of Ukraine to the UN, to António Guterres, Secretary General of the UN, Voice of America reports.

Ukraine insists that the drones are Iranian-made, and their export is a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231. This document refers to an embargo for Iran to export certain types of weapons without the approval of the UN Security Council.

“At the end of August 2022, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Mohajer and Shahed series were transferred from Iran to Russia. Ukraine assesses that this is likely part of Iran’s plans to export hundreds of UAVs to Russia. Paragraph 4 of the annex to UN Security Council Resolution 2231 prohibits the transfer from Iran of all items, materials, equipment, goods, and technologies listed in annex S/2015/546 unless approved by the Security Council on a case-by-case basis,” the letter states.

Serhiy Kyslytsya emphasizes that both types of drones received by the Russian Federation have the parameters of weapons prohibited for export.

He noted that both the Mohajer and Shahed drones are manufactured by Qods Aviation, which is subject to an international asset freeze under Security Council Resolution 2231.

“All states are obliged to freeze the funds or financial assets of these specified organizations,” writes the Ukrainian representative at the UN.

At the same time, Iran continues to deny supplying Russia with drones to attack Ukraine.

As previously reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent an official note to Israel with a request to provide Ukraine with air defense equipment. At the same time, Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, emphasized that Iran’s actions should prompt the Israeli side to provide Ukraine with the necessary protection.

Previously, Reuters journalists reported that Iran and Russia have an agreement on the further supply of drones. In addition, the parties agreed on the supply of Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.
