Ukrainian company 3DTech has unveiled Khyzhak Shooter, a reusable drone interceptor equipped with a suspended module carrying six 12-gauge recoilless barrels.
Oleksii Zhulinskyi in an interview with Militarnyi told about a new development.
The system was presented during the recent Demo Days field trials. It is designed to shoot down enemy drones, including fiber-optic variants, and engage infantry targets.
Each of the six barrels can be loaded with standard 12-gauge rounds, including shot, buckshot or other types. A special countercharge added to each cartridge cancels out recoil, enabling controlled fire.
“We’ve modified the cartridge to eliminate recoil. As a result, it can fire single shots, in bursts, or all barrels simultaneously,” said 3DTech founder Oleksii Zhulinskyi in an interview with Militarnyi.
A lighter two-barrel version has also been developed for use against high-speed aerial targets. This configuration allows the drone to reach speeds of up to 150 km/h.
Khyzhak Shooter is already being field-tested by the Ukrainian military, primarily against common front-line drones such as DJI Mavic.
Developers see further potential in targeting fiber-optic drones, which are resistant to electronic warfare and signal jamming.
“Fiber-optic drones are actually easier to hit as they carry large components like a fiber coil or batteries,” Zhulinskyi noted.
This is not the first Ukrainian drone interceptor to use firearms. Militarnyi previously reported on the SICH modular system developed by Varta DroneHunter.
These modules are designed to integrate with various FPV drone platforms between 7 and 15 inches. Integration requires only software calibration and adjustment.
In related news, Ukrainian forces last month officially adopted the Chief-1 unmanned aerial system, designed to destroy enemy drones and personnel.
