Ukraine evacuated 138 Ukrainians and citizens of other countries from the capital of Sudan.
The press service of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported on this.
Currently, all evacuees are safe.
The Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine conducted a successful rescue operation to evacuate civilians from the war-torn capital of Sudan, the city of Khartoum.
It is reported that a total of 87 citizens of Ukraine, mostly aviation specialists – pilots, technicians, and members of their families – were evacuated from the armed conflict zone. The evacuees also included citizens of Georgia and Peru.
It is emphasized that the evacuation was completed under conditions of continuous fighting, non-compliance with the cease-fire, and lack of food, water, and equipment.
“A total of 138 citizens were saved. They included 35 women and 12 children,” the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported.
The Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine noted that, as of now, all evacuees are safe in Egypt. They were provided with the necessary medical care, food, and water.
“Citizens of Ukraine are provided with visa and documentary support and expect a quick return to the Motherland,” the statement said.
At least 420 people were killed and 3,700 injured in Sudan since the start of the intense fighting on April 15, the World Health Organization reports.
As previously reported, in Sudan, the military formation of the Rapid Support Force started an armed confrontation with the military. The military reports to the military government (Sovereign Council) headed by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Force reports to the Vice President, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
Paramedics, nurses, and doctors are often unable to access injured civilians due to a lack of security guarantees and attacks on ambulances and health facilities.
