Engineers from the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade have developed an air defense system based on an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) fitted with an Igla man-portable air defense system (MANPADS).
Photos taken by volunteers showing the system being fired were published on the brigade’s official Instagram page.
“Enemy aviation is a threat not only to civilian cities but also directly to the front. Their airplanes, helicopters and reconnaissance UAVs frequently approach our infantry positions. Previously, they were relatively easy to engage with MANPADS, but now Russian FPV drones monitor every movement of our troops and often prevent them from even leaving their trenches,” the post said.
The brigade claims the UGV has already been used in combat operations and “has one enemy helicopter to its credit.”
Volunteers have launched a fundraiser to build 10 more such vehicles, which will be assembled by personnel of the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
