The country’s defense technology market reached approximately $6.8 billion, with the fastest growth recorded in the segment of ground robotic systems.

This is according to a joint study by the Kyiv School of Economics, Brave1, and Defence Builder.

Overall, defense production grew more slowly due to limited domestic funding. At the same time, technology segments showed significantly higher growth rates: drone production increased by 137%, ground robotic systems by 488%, and electronic warfare systems by 215%.

The actual market size is likely higher, as a significant share of procurement is carried out through decentralized channels, charitable foundations, direct unit-level contracts, and in-house production by brigades, which is not reflected in official statistics.

The most mature segment remains the drone market, estimated at $6.3 billion. Long-range drones and interceptors are growing the fastest, while FPV drones continue to be the most widely used product.

Among the promising areas are interceptor drones, which are only beginning to scale up, mid-range strike platforms, as well as domestic alternatives to reconnaissance multicopters as a substitute for Chinese DJI products.

The UGV segment grew sixfold, reaching $252 million. All categories are developing – logistics, evacuation, and combat platforms. The electronic warfare (EW) market increased 3.1 times, reaching $220 million.

In 2025, Ukrainian defense companies and startups attracted about $129 million in investments and grants.

This is a minimum estimate, as some deals are not disclosed for security reasons. The largest share of funding goes to the artificial intelligence and software segment.

Key funding mechanisms remain Brave1 grants, venture capital investments, preferential loans under the ‘5–7–9%’ program, as well as financing from partner countries in the form of direct procurement.

As previously reported, the European Commission approved a €1.5 billion work program to support the development of the defense-industrial sector of the EU and Ukraine.
