The Ukrainian company Besomar has developed a reusable interceptor drone equipped with a shotgun and an automated firing system.
Representatives of the company told Militarnyi about their product during Iron Demo 2025.
According to the developers, in the current configuration, the system mounted on an aircraft-type interceptor drone allows for two shots, but this number can be increased to four if necessary.
“Two shots can be fired from an airplane, and we can increase the number of shots to four on board. We generally develop airplanes and produce mass-produced aircraft. But there was a request to develop something new that could shoot in the air and still return,” says the company representative.
According to the developers, their interceptor can neutralize drones at speeds up to 200 km/h, including Gerbera UAVs that fly at 100-130 km/h and various types of reconnaissance UAVs.
Since the interceptor is equipped with a digital communication system with a frequency response function, it can approach the target and hit it unnoticed by the evasion systems installed on Russian drones.
A feature of the system is that it can fire at the target not only manually but also automatically. Due to a sensor in the nose of the drone, the system, with the pilot’s permission, initializes the shot when the target enters the kill zone. This significantly increases the efficiency of hitting maneuvering targets, as the pilot may not have enough reaction time to fire a shot manually.
The weapon uses a recoil-free system based on 12-gauge ammunition, which ensures the stability of the UAV during the shot.
This is not the first drone of this type developed in Ukraine. In March 2025, the Ukrainian drone manufacturer Sky Defenders tested a new version of a UAV with a shotgun mounted on it.
The drone is made according to a standard airplane-type design and is launched from the ground using a catapult. The nose of the drone is equipped with a shotgun with a sighting scope for accurate firing during the flight.
For easy target acquisition, the top of the drone is equipped with a rotating digital camera, which, according to the company’s video, is also used on the ZigZag interceptor drone.
However, such systems are installed not only on aircraft-type drones, but also on multi-copter platforms for intercepting enemy drones such as Mavic and FPV. Such systems are already widely used at the front, in particular by units of the separate presidential brigade and the 30th mechanized brigade.
