President Volodymyr Zelensky confirms that Ukraine is negotiating with Western countries to use their weapons to strike Russian territory.

He shared this in an interview with Reuters.

However, the President noted that there are currently no positive developments in this matter.

The news agency did not specify whether Zelensky was discussing specific partners with whom Ukraine is conducting relevant negotiations.

Reuters only quoted him: “So far, there is nothing positive”.

The President also assured that Ukraine is fulfilling agreements on the non-use of Western weapons to strike military targets on the territory of Russia.

“We can’t put the entire volume of weapons at risk,” Zelensky explained.

At a press conference following a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format) on Monday, May 20, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated that the United States expects Ukraine not to use US weapons to strike Russian troops and facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation.

The journalists asked whether Ukraine could use US air defense systems to shoot down Russian planes attacking Kharkiv from the territory of the Russian Federation. To which Austin replied: “Our expectation is that they continue to use provided weapons on targets inside of Ukraine. The aerial dynamics are a little bit different. But I don’t want to speculate.”

Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Ukraine had asked the United States to help identify targets in Russia for Kyiv to strike using its own weapons.

It has also asked the U.S. to lift restrictions on the use of American-provided weapons against military objectives inside Russia.

According to the media, the United States provided Ukraine with ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles and other weapons systems on the condition that Ukraine would not use them to strike targets in Russia. It is noted that this caveat, which Kyiv agreed to as a condition for receiving weapons.
