Ukraine Develops Automated Artillery Fire Control System Based on KRIP-A System

Ukraine has developed an automated artillery fire control system based on the KRIP-A system, which allows the gun to be automatically aimed at a target. The system has already undergone testing, including on the Ukrainian Bohdana self-propelled howitzer.

This was reported by the developers of the KRIP-A system during a practical demonstration attended by, among others, a correspondent from Militarnyi.

As the developers note, the development of unmanned systems is significantly shifting the focus on the battlefield toward UAVs. At the same time, this creates a false impression that the role of artillery is diminishing.

“The main challenges facing modern artillery— price, complexity, accuracy, range, and logistics — are not fundamental limitations. They are a consequence of the level of technology, organization, and management,” the company emphasized.

The KRIP-A information system integrates reconnaissance, command, and firepower into a single digital loop, ensuring real-time data transmission and automated execution of fire missions.

It is claimed that this provides a significant increase in the effectiveness of artillery use: the number of shells required for zeroing is reduced by five times, and ammunition consumption for hitting targets is reduced to 30%.

“ The KRIP-A combines modern geoinformation solutions, inertial navigation with anti-jamming components, automated guidance with triple redundancy, and real-time digital fire control,” the developers stated.

Integration with UAVs and other sensors allows for:

  • rapid target detection and fire correction;
  • reducing the time from detection to engagement;
  • ensuring high first-shot accuracy;
  • effective operation in electronic warfare conditions.

The system adheres to C4ISR principles and is compatible with NATO countries’ approaches, including those of the United States (AFADS), Germany (ADLER), France (ATLAS), Britain (BATES), Norway (ODIN), Italy (SIR), and Poland (TOPAZ), opening up opportunities for integration into international defense ecosystems.

Based on the information system, an automated fire control system was also developed, which can be used in modern Ukrainian artillery systems and MLRS, specifically on the 155 mm Bohdana self-propelled howitzer.

“We have automated it to a level comparable to the French Caesar. The system is automatically controlled from the gun commander’s terminal, which reduces preparation time and increases efficiency and targeting accuracy through automation and the elimination of human error,” the developers stated.

Key advantages of the system:

  • high reaction speed, accuracy, and rapid positioning;
  • rapid acquisition and processing of real-time data through integration with reconnaissance sensors;
  • automatic calculation of firing parameters and ensuring maximum accuracy of the first shot;
  • rapid deployment of the system into combat position and reduced deployment time;
  • maintaining effective fire control even under complex electronic warfare conditions.

News of the testing of the automatic control system for the Bohdana self-propelled howitzer first emerged in late 2025. At that time, the deputy chief of staff of the Missile Forces and Artillery Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Command of the Ground Forces announced this.
