Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has approved the deployment of the domestically developed Spider ground robotic system for use by Armed Forces units, the ministry’s press service announced.
The compact unmanned ground vehicle was designed by Ukrainian engineers based on battlefield experience and feedback from frontline troops.
The system features several variants tailored for tasks ranging from logistics and engineering support to combat-zone operations.
Developers have also extended the system’s operational control range in response to military requirements.
Spider has a compact size – two Spider units can be transported in the bed of a standard military pickup truck.
The Spider platform weighs just over 50 kg but can carry payloads of up to 100 kg. Each unit is powered by four electric motors, offering high mobility, endurance, and the ability to navigate complex terrain under electronic warfare conditions.
According to the Defense Ministry, the robot excels at maneuvering in tight or rugged environments, climbing steep slopes, and operating at a tilt. It also has the ability to operate under enemy electronic warfare.
Its battery provides several hours of continuous activity.
The Ministry of Defense also recently approved another ground robotic system, the Vislyuk, for operational deployment.
Like the Spider, the Vislyuk was developed to meet specific demands from Ukrainian forces.
Its compact design allows for easy transport in a minibus or trailer.
The Vislyuk can carry up to 200 kg of payload and features powerful electric motors capable of performing tasks such as towing a stuck SUV or transporting heavy equipment from the battlefield.
