President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and US President Donald Trump have reached a political agreement on investment in the production and sale of Ukrainian drones to the United States.
This was reported by Suspilne with reference to Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko.
“There is a political agreement. We are talking about investments in expanding production in Ukraine. Now the new Defense Minister Shmyhal will develop this proposal with the American side. Then there will be technical work,” Svyrydenko said.
Recently, it was reported that the United States and Ukraine are considering an agreement that would allow the supply of American weapons in exchange for battle-tested Ukrainian drones.
In an exclusive interview with The New York Times, Zelenskyi said that his recent talks with Trump focused on a breakthrough agreement that would allow the United States and Ukraine to mutually strengthen their aeronautical technologies. At the same time, the Ukrainian side offered its combat experience gained during the three years of war with Russia.
“The American people need these technologies, they should be in your arsenal. I think this is a real mega-deal, a win-win, as they say,” Zelenskyi said.
The potential ‘mega-deal’ was discussed against the backdrop of the U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagel’s push to simplify bureaucratic procedures in the production of American drones and introduce widespread use of drones in the U.S. military.
