Ukraine signed a security agreement with Sweden during President Zelensky’s visit to Stockholm.

The Office of the President of Ukraine reported on this.

On the Swedish side, the agreement was signed by Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson.

As part of this agreement, Sweden will provide Ukraine with additional military assistance and financial aid packages from 2024 to 2026.

First of all, it regards assistance in the amount of about €6.5 billion, which is approximately €2.2 billion per year. It should be noted that the amount of aid will increase over the ten-year term of the document.

The priority area of assistance will be aviation, as well as air defense systems, armored vehicles, artillery systems, maritime security, mine clearance assistance, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The statement states that this agreement allowed Ukraine to receive unique ASC 890 airborne early warning and control aircraft.

There is also the prospect of receiving Gripen fighter jets from Sweden and training Ukrainian pilots for these aircraft.

“A unique part of the agreement with Sweden is the provision of specialized ASC 890 aircraft, as well as the prospect of transferring JAS 39 Gripen fighter aircraft to Ukraine, including appropriate training,” the office of the President of Ukraine said in a statement.

Sweden will support Ukraine’s defense industry and cooperate in the development of new weapons. First of all, the country will develop bilateral cooperation on localization, repair, maintenance and production of Swedish defense products in Ukraine.

In addition, Sweden has clearly reaffirmed its support for Ukraine on its path to EU and NATO membership.
