The Ukrainian government allocates UAH 8 billion from the state budget for fortification development to defend Ukrainian positions.

This was announced by Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine.

The government managed to allocate this sum for the construction of fortifications by redistributing state budget expenditures on April 23, 2024.

Shmyhal noted that since the beginning of 2024, UAH 38 billion has been assigned for strengthening defense lines.

“Our task is to create a reliable defensive shaft that will protect our soldiers and give more advantage to our army on the battlefield,” he said.

Recall that two weeks ago, the government earmarked UAH 3.88 billion for the construction of defensive structures. This sum was assigned for the border construction in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.

Fortifications erection

Construction of the defense line is a complex of works, which includes, in particular, engineering work on the construction of trenches, passages of communication and arrangement of dugouts, concrete shelters, firing positions, shelters for equipment, installation of engineering barriers, special concrete structures, etc.

Deputy Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk said that the defense lines are equipped by both the military, in particular units of the Support Forces Command, the State Special Transport Service, and brigades of civilian workers.

If the security situation and weather allow, the work on fortification of defensive lines will continue virtually continuously.

According to Havryliuk, these funds are invested in the construction of high-quality, mainly concrete fortifications and engineering of the non-explosive barriers.
