The UK Ministry of Defence has announced that it will soon provide Ukraine with an additional 1,000 Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM).
The announcement was published on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov, stated that the urgent air defense assistance from the United Kingdom will total more than £500 million.
The LMM (Lightweight Multirole Missile) is a lightweight, multirole missile designed for both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, developed by the British company Thales.
It is intended to engage aerial targets and, when necessary, armored vehicles.
The missile is 1.3 meters long, has a diameter of 76 mm, and weighs approximately 13 kg. It is equipped with either a high-explosive fragmentation warhead or a tandem shaped-charge warhead.
Its engagement range is up to 8 km when launched from an aerial platform and up to 6 km when launched from land or sea platforms.
The missile’s speed exceeds Mach 1.5. The guidance system varies by version: laser guidance in Version A, an infrared seeker in Versions B and C, and inertial guidance with GPS in Version D.
Its modular design allows the LMM to be adapted for different combat missions and platforms, including unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
It can be launched from helicopters, light armored vehicles, ships, and ground-based launchers.
The missile is used in the man-portable air defense system Martlet and the mobile Stormer system, both of which have been in service with the Ukrainian Defense Forces for several years.
Militarnyi previously reported that the United Kingdom would allocate $205 million for weapons for Ukraine.
