In the East of Ukraine, the 44th Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has destroyed the Russian 2S4 Tyulpan 240mm self-propelled heavy mortar.
This was reported by the analysts at Ukraine Weapons Tracker.
The defeat of a heavy self-propelled mortar occurred north of the village of Pshenichne, in the Luhansk region.
The movement of Russian weapons was monitored using a reconnaissance drone.
According to the source, as a result of the counter-battery fire, the Ukrainian artillery with the help of a M982 Excalibur 155mm high-precision projectile destroyed the enemy’s artillery system.
2S4 Tyulpan is designed to destroy fortifications. The mortar is externally mounted on the rear of the hull. For rough guidance, a hydraulic system is used in the vertical axis (aiming) and charging the mortar.
The main ammunition of the 2B8 mortar includes 53-F-864 high-explosive mines with a maximum range of 9.65km, as well as 3F2 rocket-assisted mines with a maximum range of 19.69km.
Earlier, the Defense Forces of Ukraine had already destroyed such a self-propelled artillery installation.
A kind of “hunt” for the 240mm mortar was organized by the gunners of the 40th Separate Artillery Brigade together with the fighters of the 92nd Mechanized Brigade.

The American-made М982 Excalibur 155mm extended-range guided artillery shell is being developed by Raytheon Missile Systems and BAE Systems Bofors.
The operational range of this projectile is 40 kilometers, and the circular error probable is only a few meters. Proven firing range Excalibur with M777 howitzer with a barrel length of 39 calibers – 36 kilometers. With CAESAR ASC with a 52-calibre barrel, the distance will increase up to 46 kilometers. And in combination with the German PzH 2000, the Excalibur projectile can hit the target at a distance of 48 km.
When firing this projectile, the howitzer barrel is directed almost vertically upwards to bring the projectile to the maximum possible altitude, from which it will then fly to the target.
