The U.S. has paused intelligence sharing with Ukraine related to targets on Russian territory but is considering resuming cooperation, officials confirmed.
John Ratcliffe, head of the Central Intelligence Agency, indirectly confirmed the suspension in data exchange on Fox News.
“Trump had questions regarding Zelensky’s commitment to the peace process. And he said: let’s pause, I want to give you a chance to think about it. And you saw the answer: President Zelensky came out with a statement and said he was ready for peace. So on the military front and on the intelligence front, the pause will be removed,” Ratcliffe said.
U.S. intelligence plays a critical role in supporting Ukrainian forces by providing information on Russian troop movements, including on Russian territory.
This data has been vital for targeting strategic Russian assets. However, the United States has suspended intelligence sharing with Ukraine, following tensions between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, officials familiar with the matter stated.
Sky News reported, citing anonymous sources in Ukraine, that while intelligence assistance has not been entirely halted, the restrictions are targeted and apply only to data related to Russian territory.
“Unfortunately, yes, but not completely,” said one source when asked about the pause. “These are selective restrictions regarding the possibility of causing harm on Russian territory.”
Despite the declared pause, Ukrainian forces continue to receive intelligence regarding Russian activities in occupied Ukrainian territories.
Ukrainian long-range drones also have continued to strike key Russian infrastructure, including the Syzran oil refinery, oil pipelines, and the Novoshakhtinsky refinery in Rostov, on March 3-4, 2025.
In a related development, U.S. President Trump has ordered a suspension of arms supplies to Ukraine, including shipments previously agreed upon during the Biden administration. This includes weapons currently in transit to Ukraine or awaiting shipment in Poland.
An unnamed Pentagon official stated that military assistance would remain on hold until the U.S. is satisfied that Ukraine has shown a good faith commitment to peace, Bloomberg reports. The halt applies to all military equipment not yet delivered to Ukraine, including weapons en route on planes and ships or waiting in transit zones in Poland.
