The United States supported a bipartisan resolution calling on the Biden Administration to provide Ukraine with ATACMS missiles.

The resolution H.Res. 488 was considered and supported by the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

“ATAСMS missiles are critically important for the success of Ukraine’s counteroffensive. ATACMS have a range of up to 190 miles (more than 300 km – ed.), which allows Ukrainian forces to strike the territories seized by the Russians,” — stated in this regard the chairman of the Committee, Republican congressman Michael McCaul.

The Ukranian news agency Ukrinform correspondent has reported that the senior member of the Committee from the Democratic Party, congressman Gregory Meeks, noted at the meeting that this step would bring Ukraine closer to victory over the aggressor and the establishment of peace.

“As Ukraine continues its counteroffensive to liberate its own territories, the United States, together with partners and allies, must consider all avenues to help Ukraine win,” the representative of the Democratic Party emphasized.

American lawmakers from both parties have recently increased pressure on Biden’s administration to hand over long-range missiles to Ukraine.

Resolution H.Res. 488 with a call to the Biden administration to provide Ukraine with ATACMS missiles, was introduced to the U.S. Congress in the first half of June.

The document emphasizes the need to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles immediately while maintaining the combat readiness of the United States.

“The House of Representatives calls on the United States to immediately provide Ukraine with Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) in sufficient quantities to accelerate Ukraine’s victory in confronting Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression while maintaining the United States’ combat readiness,” the document states.

In addition, the resolution encourages the U.S. allies and partners to provide similar systems to Ukraine.

At the same time, there is concern that the delay in providing this critically important weapon is only prolonging the war.

“The rapid provision of these critically important weapons systems will provide the Ukrainian army with decisive capabilities for deep strikes, which they currently lack, will undermine the combat capability of the Russian Federation and may accelerate the victory of Ukraine,” the document notes.
