U.S. helicopter crashed in northeastern Syria. 22 American service members were injured in a helicopter accident on June 11, 2023.

U.S. Central Command reported this news.

“The servicemen are receiving treatment for their wounds, and 10 servicemen have been sent to medical facilities outside of Syria,” the statement reads.

The Pentagon did not specify the degree of severity of the servicemen’s injuries or the type of helicopter, nor did it say what task they were performing.

“Until the investigation is complete, we cannot provide any further information,” Central Command spokesman Maj. Gen. John Moore said.

U.S. Central Command states that the helicopter was not attacked and crashed under other circumstances.

“We will provide an update as more information becomes available,” added John Moore.

So far, the only such incident in this region was the situation with the V-22 Osprey, which forced a “hard landing” in 2017. No casualties were reported.

Other accidents or destruction of aircraft were related to the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper UAVs and occurred during 2015-2020.

American troops have been in Syria since 2015 to advise and assist the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in the fight against Islamic State militants.

Since the defeat of the extremist group in Syria in March 2019, American forces have been trying to prevent the return of the Islamic State, which swept through Iraq and Syria in 2014, taking control of large areas.

After the withdrawal of the main group of troops in 2021, 900 American servicemen, including special forces, remained in northeastern and southern Syria.

They control 10 military bases, which are designed to hold important economic regions.
