The United States Army has started testing the latest tactical vehicle NGTV-H (Next Generation Tactical Vehicle-Hybrid) with a hybrid propulsion system.
The relevant photos were published on the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service platform.
The vehicle, developed and manufactured by GM Defense, has been put into service with the 3rd Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army.
The new vehicle was tested as part of the Combined Resolve 25-01 exercise in Germany.
The photos from the exercise also show the use of Anduril Ghost-X and PDW C-100D UAVs, a Skydio X2D quadcopter, a SMET wheeled unmanned vehicle and a STEED electric trolley.
Militarnyi has reported about this vehicle’s development in October 2024.
It is known that the NGTV-H is based on the chassis of the Chevy Silverado SUV and uses a Duramax engine combined with an electric battery that powers the electric motors. The battery has a capacity of 300 kilowatt-hours, and the fuel tank is 56 liters.
Judging by its appearance, the design was based on another company vehicle, the Light Utility Vehicle (LUV).
Due to the hybrid powertrain, the vehicle can operate with low thermal and acoustic stress. The electric battery also helps to reduce the need for external batteries: soldiers can use the vehicle as a power source.
According to GM Defense, the company has integrated “countless” different advanced technologies from some of its electric vehicle programs, including the Hummer EV.
In addition, the design of the new SUV took into account the experience of producing an army vehicle based on the Chevy Colorado.
The new vehicle can be transported by C-130 and C-17 aircraft, as well as loaded onto a CH-47 Chinook or MH-53 King Stallion cargo helicopter.
