The United States and China have agreed to establish direct military communication channels to help prevent conflicts and reduce tensions in the event of any incidents.
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced this.
According to him, the decision was made following a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. Afterward, the American defense secretary held equally positive talks with his Chinese counterpart, China’s Minister of National Defense Admiral Dong Jun, in Malaysia.
“Admiral Dong and I agree that peace, stability, and good relations are the best path for our two great and strong countries,” emphasized Hegseth.
President Trump, commenting on his meeting with Xi Jinping, called it a ‘historic G2 meeting,’ which, in his words, set the tone for lasting peace and success for both nations.
“The Department of War will act in the same spirit – through peace, strength, mutual respect, and positive relations,” added the Pentagon chief.
According to Hegseth, Washington and Beijing have already agreed to establish special direct military communication channels. This step is intended to ensure rapid communication in crisis situations. Several additional meetings are planned in the near future to discuss the technical details.
