U.S. allies, including members of the Five Eyes alliance and other key partners, are considering scaling back intelligence sharing with Washington over concerns about a possible shift in U.S. policy toward Russia, NBC News reported.
Officials from several allied nations fear that sensitive intelligence – especially concerning foreign informants – could be inadvertently passed to Moscow.
Intelligence services consider their responsibility to foreign agents sacred and pledge to protect their anonymity.
Four sources familiar with the discussions said that some countries are reviewing their protocols for intelligence exchanges with the U.S. due to growing concerns about closer ties between the Trump administration and Russia.
The discussions reportedly involve Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Five Eyes members Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Those discussions are already happening,” the source familiar with the information shared. However, no concrete decisions or actions have been taken.
The intelligence concerns are part of a wider reassessment of diplomatic, trade, and military relations with the new U.S. administration.
Western media previously reported that the US had limited the exchange and transfer of intelligence information to Ukraine and banned it from being shared with the UK.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe indirectly confirmed this pause in intelligence exchange on Tuesday.
According to him, Trump had questions about Zelensky’s commitment to the peace process. “He said: ‘Let’s put it on hold, I want to give you a chance to think about it.’ And you saw the response – President Zelensky came out and said he is ready for peace. So, on both the military and intelligence fronts, the pause will be lifted,” Ratcliffe added.
U.S. intelligence has provided crucial support to Ukraine, offering data on Russian troop movements in occupied territories and inside Russia. This information has played a key role in Ukrainian strikes on strategic Russian targets.
However, sources familiar with the situation said that on Monday, the U.S. halted intelligence sharing with Kyiv following a recent dispute between Zelensky and Trump in the Oval Office.
