Türkiye has reported that the tanker MIDVOLGA 2 was attacked in the Black Sea while en route from Russia to Georgia.
Deniz Haber, citing Türkiye’s Directorate General of Maritime Affairs, published the report on Tuesday, December 2.
According to the report, the vessel, which was carrying sunflower oil, was attacked about 80 miles off the Turkish coast.
There were 13 crew members on board the Russian tanker – they were not injured and did not request assistance.
After the attack, MIDVOLGA 2 changed course and headed toward the Turkish city of Sinop without needing an escort, as its engines were operating at the time of the report.
According to open-source information, the 140-meter vessel MIDVOLGA 2 (IMO 9735139, MMSI 273376900) was built in 2014 and sails under the Russian flag. Its home port is “Big Port Saint Petersburg.”
On November 28, Sea Baby naval drones attacked two sanctioned oil tankers of Russia’s “shadow fleet” – KAIRO and VIRAT – in the Black Sea.
