Turkey starts production of new Bozok munition for Bayraktar TB2 drones.
The Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah reported about this.
The laser-guided munition has undergone multiple successful fire tests.
The media reported that the mass-production of Turkish Bozok munitions is on its way. The high-precision ammunition will be integrated into the Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles.
The ammunition that aims at a target with a laser beam, was developed at the Defense Industries Research and Development Institute (SAGE) under the Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Turkey (TÜBİTAK).
A spokesman for the Institute, Gürcan Okumuş, said that the developers came up with an even more effective warhead for Bozok that’s yet to be tested.
The institute has also extended the range of the ammunition to 15 kilometers, and plans to boost it even further.
The new munition is lighter than the MAM-L bombs, which is a type of a small ammunition with a laser semi-active homing head actively used in Bayraktar TB2 drones.
With a lightweight and compact design the Bozok munition weighs 16 kg and has a diameter of 120 mm with a length of 80 cm. This enables it to provide operational compatibility with drones for which weight is critical.
The Bayraktar TB2 a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned combat aerial vehicle can conduct reconnaissance and hit targets with high-precision guided bombs.
These drones became best known during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war between Azerbaijan and Armenian-ammcontrolled military units.
Prior to that, they were successfully used in Libya and Syria. And now in Ukraine, against the Russian invaders.
